ECan Building Reunites Workforce
Christchurch ReBuild: Most of the 450 workforce of Environment Canterbury (ECan) were spread across numerous offices around Christchurch, following the 2010-11 Canterbury earthquakes. The new purpose-built ECan Offices reunited the team after a $50m rebuild. As designated cleaning contractors, Mirror Image was delighted to ensure the workforce walked into a sparkling clean new facility.
The Naylor Love Canterbury team began constructing the purpose-built offices on Tuam Street in 2013. Built over five storeys (7,000m²) the offices include a full-height atrium through the centre, a basement car park, and a two-storey cycle and locker building with space for 120 bikes. The high-end interior finishes include large areas of timber panelling in the public areas and board room, with beautiful carpentry.
As befits a building for the organisation responsible for a wide range of environment-related governance and services in Canterbury, the ECan building utilises the latest in environmentally sustainable features, including a ground-source heat exchange unit for heating and cooling.
The base-isolated building is also seismically strong, having been built to 120% of code, with piling to approximately 16m below the ground surface, and more than 7,800m³ of soil excavated for the basement car park.
This major project was completed on time and within budget, with ECan’s 450 staff moving into their stunning new open-plan offices in April 2016. Mirror Image was proud to provide a professional clean inside and out, using knuckle booms and our experienced team to do this impressive building justice.
